Alan Rees Career
In 1962, Rees drove for the Works Lotus Formula Junior team and won three races before crashing out of the 1000 km sports car race at the Nürburgring. From 1963 to 1968, he competed in Formula Two for the Roy Winkelmann Racing team and frequently defeated senior drivers such as Jackie Stewart and Jochen Rindt.
In 1969, Rees co-founded March Engineering with Max Mosley, Graham Coaker, and Robin Herd; his initials are the “AR” in “March.” After 1971, he moved to Shadow Racing Cars as team principal. He departed Shadow in 1977 to co-found Arrows. In 1996, he and the other remaining founders sold Arrows to Tom Walkinshaw.
