What did Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele do?

Dembele captured the video saying: “All these ugly faces, just so you can play PES, aren’t you ashamed?” He then goes on to say: “What kind of backward language is that?” and “Are you technologically advanced in your country or not?”

Another video from the same tour sees Griezmann relaxing in a pool, with fellow teammates Dembele and Samuel Umtiti in attendance. The 30-year-old is allegedly captured saying: “Ching Chong.”

But the video is not a recent one. By judging Griezmann’s hair cut it is believed to be shot a couple of years ago. Particularly Griezmann’s haircut suggests that the video isn’t from the Euros and reports have claimed it’s actually from Barcelona’s pre-season tour to Asia in 2019. Barcelona have been sponsored by Japanese retail giant Rakuten since 2016. In 2019 when Barcelona spent some of their pre-season in Japan just weeks after Griezmann had signed for the club from Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann took it to social media and said: “I have always been committed against any form of discrimination.”

“For the past few days, some people have wanted to pass me off as the man I am not. I firmly refute the accusations made against me and I am sorry if I offended my Japanese friends.”

Dembele confirmed in social media that the video was shot in Japan and it is from the EUROs tour:”The scene happens to be in Japan. It could have taken place anywhere on the planet, I would have used the same expressions.

“I sometimes use these kinds of expressions in private, with friends, regardless of their origin, but I can imagine that the video could have offended the people present in these images. Therefore, I offer them my most sincere apologies.”

Well, this is not the first time Griezmann has been involved in a controversy surrounding racism. In 2017 the 30-year-old shocked people when he dressed in blackface for a fancy dress party.
