Anup Kumar Biography: Anup Kumar born on 20th November 1983 is a former captain of the Indian Kabaddi team and the current coach of Puneri Paltan. He has supported the India team to capture gold at 2010, 2014 Asian Games, 2016 South Asian Games, and 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. Anup Kumar is considered the smartest kabaddi player and as Captain Cool who can easily turn a difficult match in his favor. He is quite famous to bring shivers to his opponent. Toe Touch is his signature move. He announced his retirement on 19th December 2018 from all forms of the kabaddi sport.

Anup Kumar Biography: Early Life

Anup was born in Palra Village of Gurgaon District in Haryana, India to Ransingh Yadav (father) and Ballo Devi (mother). He belongs to a simple middle-class family. 

His interest in the sport was never much high but used to play kabaddi during his childhood in his free time to have fun. But later in 2005, after joining CRPF, his interest in the sport increased after getting praised by his colleagues and by Amarsingh Yadav, a CRPF kabaddi coach. 

Soon, he decided to pursue the sport as his career. In this process, his coach, Amarsingh Yadav played a major role in providing him with proper facilities and information.

Anup Kumar Biography: Career

  • Anup Kumar made his international debut representing India at the 2010 Asian Games, where the Indian team won the final match capturing gold for the country defeating Iran by a 20-37 score.
  • The feat was repeated in 2014 at the same tournament, where India won gold defeating Iran by a 27-25 score.
  • Anup Kumar’s smart captaincy and high raiding skills helped the India team win gold at the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.
  • The same year, under his captaincy India won gold at the 2016 South Asian Games.

Anup Kumar Biography: Pro Kabaddi League

  • Anup Kumar was signed to U Mumba in the 1st season as a captain where he led his team to the final’s scoring 155 raid points and 35 tackle points in 16 matches but unfortunately were conquered by the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the final. He was dignified as the MVP for the season.
  • Finally, he captured a PKL title in the 2nd season conquering Bengaluru Bulls in the finals with a score of 36-30. He scored 74 raid points and 7 tackle points in 14 matches.
  • In the 3rd season, Anup scored 76 raid points and 3 tackle points in 13 matches. He led his team to the finals for the third consecutive season. In the finals, they were defeated by Patna Pirates by a score of 31-28.
  • Unfortunately, for the 4th season, U Mumba was unable to reach the finals and was ranked in the 5th position. For the season, he scored 72 raid points and 10 tackle points in 14 matches. 
  • He retained with the team for the next season and became the first player to eclipse 400 points. In the 5th season, he scored 112 raid points and 23 tackle points in 21 matches.
  • In the 6th season, he was signed to Jaipur Pink Panthers, the team of Abhishek Bachchan for Rupees 30 Lakh. For the Panthers, he scored 38 raid points and 12 tackle points in 13 matches.
  • He took his retirement from all the forms of kabaddi after being a major part of the sport for 15 years on 19th December 2018.
