Barcelona gives bad news for the 2019/20 season.

Barcelona did some business in the summer transfer window. There were a lot of struggles for the Catalan club and their new manager Ronald Koeman. They faced a lack of funds during the transfer break and found it hard to sign their targets. Koeman is trying to rebuild Barcelona following a new model which includes young talented players.

Barca made some significant signings, namely, Pjanic from Juventus, Francisco Trincao from SC Braga, Pedri from Las Palmas, and Sergino Dest from Ajax. Koeman is still not sufficient as the club missed out on Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia. These signings came as Barcelon sacrificed their veteran players like Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, and Arturo Vidal.

Barcelona: balancing the books

Barcelona gives bad news for the 2019/20 season.

Barcelona lost quality players but managed to balance the books saving up the high salaries. The coronavirus pandemic has hit the Catalunya outfit economically just like other top European clubs. There was no footballing action for almost three months which caused the loss of ticketing prices as well as lapsing of commercial deals with the club. Barcelona earns a lot with their high ticket prices. With no fans around the stadium, the club incurred huge losses.

Barcelona’s official site shows the full financial report of the 2019/20 season. There were losses around £95 million and explains why Barcelona failed to acquire their shortlisted players. The board is also responsible for the current economy of the club with their hopeless big-money signings in the past few seasons.

Flop signings and unlucky venture at Barcelona

Barca signed Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, and Ousmane Dembele with high fees expecting them to provide eccentric performances. However, all of them have failed to meet the hopes of the fans. Coutinho spent the last season on loan at Bayern Munich and recaptured his form. Koeman looks to give him another opportunity to show his talent. In the last match in La Liga, the Brazilian scored to draw level against Sevilla.

Griezmann has had a lacklustre debut campaign but he seems to find his touch back playing at his natural position with Ronald Koeman adjusting a new formation to his squad. Ousmane Dembele was linked with a move away from the club during this summer transfer window. The negotiation with Manchester United did not materialize as the Frenchman stayed put. Koeman is upset with the interdisciplinary acts of the 23-year-old. Also, he failed to make a mark starting for Barcelona on Koeman’s competitive debut for the Blaugrana.
