La Liga Giants Barcelona passed through a tough transfer window as they suffered due to economic instability. Still newly appointed Ronald Koeman managed to bring in some exquisite talents across Europe. One of them is Sergino Dest from Ajax. The 19-year-old full-back signed for the Blaugrana as a direct replacement for the departing Portugueses right-back Nelson Semedo.
Sergino Dest: Ready to make his mark at Barcelona
The youngster earned his acclaim playing in the Eredivisie making 35 appearances for boyhood club Ajax. In 2019, Dest had his breakthrough season as he impressed with his consistent performances in the defense. The defender is versatile who can feature on both the flanks. He also scored two goals in the previous campaign. Barcelona snapped up the US International with Bayern Munich in the race to sign the player.

Sergino chose Barcelona realizing he would definitely get more game time than at the Allianz Arena. Most importantly, his choice was pretty clear as the right-back opened up about Barcelona being his dream club to play for. He debuted for the Blaugrana in the last match against Sevilla in La Liga as he subbed on for Jordi Alba. It was a promising start to his Barcelona career even though the match ended in a stalemate.
Barcelona: Home of youth prospects
With his debut, he became the first-ever American to wear the Catalan club’s jersey in an official match. The €21 million signing told NOS about his experience to play for Barca. He told it was special to play alongside the 6-time Balon D’or winner Lionel Messi. Dest admitted Messi spoke to him but he did not understand anything as he knows only English but Messi does not. However, the duo smiled at each other.
With the draw at Sevilla, Barcelona’s winning run comes to at halt. Koeman won his first two games in La Liga easily with his great sense of strategy. The Blaugrana currently sit at fifth position in the league table bagging seven points. When the board appointed Koeman, it was his duty to rebuild the club and take it back to the same heights during his era. As a former Barca man, Koeman realizes the essential points to improve a club from its base.
Introduction of young talents like Sergino Dest, Pedri, and Francisco Trincao is going to be a key move later in the campaign. Apart from that, La Masia graduate Ansu Fati is taking the Catalunya outfit by storm with his goal scoring feat in the season opener.
