Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele ‘already talking’ with dream club over a transfer next summer

La Liga Giants Barcelona ended the transfer window with despair as they missed out on two important targets. The Catalan outfit wanted Lyon forward Memphis Depay to lead the attacking front and replace the departing Luis Suarez. Initial transfer target Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez had a huge asking price which pushed Koeman to find an alternative for the Argentine.

Unsuccessful transfer break for Barcelona

Another player who was supposed to seal his move to the Camp Nou is former La Masia graduate Eric Garcia. Manchester City signed Ruben Dias from SL Benfica which put Garcia’s future in jeopardy as the youngster will have less playtime. Barcelona sent out a bid for the center-back but City wanted more money even though the Spaniard had just a year left on his contract. Now, Barcelona will have to wait for a year to sign him for free or retry in the January transfer break.

Barcelona also failed to outsource its out-of-favor winger Ousmane Dembele to Premier League side Manchester United. Both the clubs did not come to terms as United wanted Dembele on a loan deal but Barca pushed them for a permanent transfer which could have boosted their transfer budget. Dembele’s failed transfer also stopped Barcelona to confirm the signing of Memphis Depay even if the agreement was met with Lyon.

La Liga’s governing body prohibited the transfer due to the salary cap rule. As per Catalunya Radio, the 23-year-old never intended to seal his move to Premier League. Instead, he is already looking forward to his future destination in Italy. Dembele looks to join Juventus but it is not decided when the winger will move. It could be possible the upcoming year in the summer transfer window or else the Frenchman can wait till his contract at Barcelona expires in 2022.

Koeman is very critical of Dembele due to his interdisciplinary act. Recently, the youngster arrived late for training which the new manager did not like. Moreover, Dembele could not make his mark on the first match of La Liga against Villareal. He was subsequently benched by Koeman for the next two games against Celta Vigo and Sevilla. The inconsistency of his performances due to recurring injuries and lack of physical fitness has been a problem since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund. The speculation for his departure continues as Dembele fights for his place in Koeman’s squad along with the likes of Trincao and Pedri.
