Brian Bowles Biography: Bowles was born on June 22, 1980, in Charleston, West Virginia, and was raised by his single mother in Chesapeake, West Virginia. Bowles’ father died when he was 11 years old, after being just absent from his early years. Bowles moved to Jackson County, Georgia, in the tenth grade and attended Jackson County Comprehensive High School, where he wrestled for three years. After graduation, Bowles was introduced to mixed martial arts by a former teammate and began training at The HardCore Gym, which has since been rebranded SBG Athens.

Bowles achieved a perfect 7-0 amateur record and began his professional career with two first-round stoppages and an excellent 3-0 record in regional promotions. He submitted Charlie Valencia with a rear-naked choke in his first two fights in the organization. He knocked out Marcos Galvao at WEC 31 with a flurry that stunned his opponent and a powerful right hook within minutes of the second round, showing his proficiency in striking and submission offense (with a main wrestling base).
World Extreme Cagefighting combined with the Ultimate Fighting Championship on October 28, 2010. As a result of the merger, all WEC fighters joined the UFC. Bowles fought former opponent Damacio Page at UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann on March 3, 2011. Bowles defeated Page with a guillotine hold at 3:30 of the first round, the same method and timing he used to defeat Page in their first encounter. Bowles fought Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 132 on July 2, 2011. This was the first time in his career that he went to a decision (30–27, 30–27, and 29–28), and he won via unanimous decision.
Bowles fought against Urijah Faber at UFC 139 on November 19, 2011. In the second round, he lost the fight by submission (guillotine choking). Bowles returned from an extended 18-month absence to face George Roop at UFC 160 on May 25, 2013.[12][13] He was knocked out in the second round of the contest. Bowles failed his UFC 160 substance test due to a high ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone (T/E). The NSAC permits a T/E Ratio of 6:1, but Bowles’ ratio exceeded 20:1. Bowles did not file an appeal; consequently, he was suspended for nine months and fined $5,700. On March 2, 2015, Bowles was released from the UFC.
