Condit turned professional at the age of eighteen, defeating Nick Roscorta in less than a minute with a rear-naked choke in his début on September 6, 2002, in Juárez, Mexico. He also won his next four bouts in the first round, with only one going past the one-minute mark, before suffering his first loss in his international debut, albeit under the shoot boxing ruleset.
On September 23, 2003, in Tokyo, Japan, he fought 95-fight veteran and 2002 Shoot Boxing World Tournament champion Andy Souwer. He lost by technical knockout due to leg strikes with seventeen seconds remaining in the fifth and final round after being put down three times.
Condit fought Hiromitsu Miura at WEC 35 on August 3, 2008. Condit defeated his opponent via TKO in the fourth round to achieve Fight of the Night honors. Briefly, a rematch with Brock Larson was linked to WEC 39. As a result of both competitors suffering injuries, the bout was canceled and rescheduled with a different opponent upon moving to the UFC. Condit would be the final WEC Welterweight Champion before the UFC abolished the title and weight division. Condit’s last record in the WEC was a perfect 5–0.

Condit debuted with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) organization after the WEC was bought out. On April 1, 2009, he made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 18 against Martin Kammmann. The fight between Condit and his opponent ended in a split decision loss. The fight was so close that FightMetric declared it a draw.
He was then scheduled to fight Chris Lytle at UFC Fight Night 19 on September 16, 2009, but Lytle had to withdraw due to a knee injury. Jake Ellenberger, someone new to the UFC, would replace Lytle. Then, Condit defeated Ellenberger via split decision to earn his first UFC victory.
Condit was expected to face Josh Koscheck at UFC 143 on February 4, 2012. However, due to St. Pierre’s knee injury, Condit fought Diaz at the event, and the victor was awarded the interim UFC Welterweight Championship. Condit won the UFC Interim Welterweight Championship after defeating Diaz unanimously (48–47, 49–46, and 49–46).
Condit returned to the cage eight months later, on August 27, 2016, to face Demian Maia in the main event of UFC on Fox 21. He was knocked out in the opening round of the match. After a sixteen-month layoff, Condit returned to the UFC and faced Neil Magny at UFC 219 on December 30, 2017. A unanimous decision in the bout defeated him.
Condit fought Matt Brown on UFC on ABC 1 on January 16, 2021. The fight was decided unanimously in his favor. Condit fought Max Griffin at UFC 264 on July 10, 2021. A unanimous decision in the fight defeated him. On September 17, 2021, it was reported that Condit had retired from mixed martial arts competition.
