Indian pacer Shardul Thakur has picked up the big wicket of England captain Joe Root who was the only barrier between Indian and their hopes of winning the fourth test and the Blues are now inches away from securing a sweet victory. This was the second wicket of the day for Shardul Thakur. Both of his wickets carried great significance. His first wicket opened India’s tally for the day and Joe Root’s wicket certained their victory.

Shardul Thakur has undoubtedly been India’s hero of the match in the fourth test, with both the bat and the bowl in hand. With the bat in hand, the youngster played exceptional knocks in both the innings of India in the fourth test. He scored a quickfire 57 in the first innings and a responsible 60 in the second innings. Apart from this, Shardul has also picked up a combined total of 3 wickets in the match so far. All three of them were important wickets.
Shardul Thakur dismisses Joe Root
However it must be said that Joe Root gave away his wicket too easily. Given the form he has been in the entire series, a dismissal like this is indeed disappointing. Shardul Thakur came in to bowl the 80th over and faced Joe Root on strike. The pacer striked on the very first ball. Joe Root misjudged the delivery and it hit the wickets after touching the inside edge of his bat. The England captain was seemingly very upset with him after the dismissal and it was clear that he had given up hopes of winning.

England now need 170 runs to win in 36 overs which seems pretty impossible to achieve. On the other hand, India need just 2 more wickets to win. None of the tailenders of England have been good in the series so far and thus they are expected to fall soon.
