Edin Dzeko plays and scores for Inter Milan hours before transfer from Roma was officially confirmed

Edin Dzeko was surprisingly included in Inter’s starting lineup for Sunday’s friendly clash against Dynamo Kyiv. The Bosnian also netted a goal in his first appearance in Inter’s shirt as the club announced his arrival on social media hours after the game ended in a 3-0 victory. Inter’s fans were shocked by his inclusion as the player was yet to finalise his transfer from Roma to replace Romelu Lukaku who left the club earlier this week. The Nerazzurri played behind closed doors in Monza and also made no mention of their first XI on social media prior to kick-off.

The club did share a photo of their dressing room, but the striker’s shirt was conspicuous by its absence. Fans were surprised when Dzeko took the field and made an immediate impact. Nicolo Barella opened the scoring for Inter by finishing off a slick move between the Bosnian and Stefano Sensi. Barella then turned provider to play in Dzeko, who made no mistake in converting his chance to make it 2-0.

The Nerazzurri’s later confirmed the Bosnian’s transfer by saying: “FC Internazionale Milano is pleased to announce the signing of Edin Dzeko,” the club signalled on its official website shortly after his ‘debut’.

“The forward has joined the club from Roma on a permanent transfer, having signed a two-year contract that runs until 30 June 2023.”

Edin Dzeko, 35, scored in a 3-0 friendly win over Dynamo Kiev on Saturday and is seen as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku at Inter, following the Belgian star’s return to Chelsea, and leaves Roma after a successful six years at the club.

The Bosnian striker joined from Manchester City in 2015, initially on loan before the move became permanent 12 months later-and netted 119 time in 260 appearances. He was the league’s top goal scorer 2016-17 with 29 goals.
