The promoters Jungle Fight, Millennium Brawl, and World Absolute Fight hosted Werdum’s early contests. He had a 4-0-1 record, winning one match against Gabriel Gonzaga, a BJJ expert. He was Mirko Filipovi’s partner in combat at the time, and the Croat was primarily responsible for his PRIDE debut.

In 2005, Werdum defeated Tom Erikson in his PRIDE debut and won through submission. Later that year, at the PRIDE Final Conflict 2005, he competed against Roman Zentsov. Zentsov was defeated via a triangle choke at 6:01 of the first round. After that, Werdum suffered his first MMA defeat when he was defeated by Sergei Kharitonov in PRIDE 30 by a split decision. Then, in PRIDE 31, Werdum triumphed over Jon Olav Einemo by unanimous judgment.

Before competing in the 2006 Pride Open Weight Grand Prix, he amassed a 3-1 PRIDE record. In the second round of his tournament debut, he defeated Dutch boxer Alistair Overeem via kimura. Fabricio Werdum UFC

Fabricio Werdum made his UFC debut on April 21, 2007, at UFC 70: Nations Collide. He lost a unanimous decision to former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski. He began training at the Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil, where he became more aggressive and improved his hitting, notably in Muay Thai assaults.

Werdum faced Gabriel Gonzaga in a rematch at UFC 80 on January 19, 2008. Werdum won the fight via TKO. He withstood an early barrage of punches before securing the Muay Thai clinch and connecting with several knee strikes before putting Gonzaga to the ground and finishing him with punches.

Werdum’s next fight came at UFC 85 against Brandon Vera. He beat Vera in the first round via TKO. Werdum gained full mount with less than 30 seconds remaining in the round and landed a flurry of unanswered punches. The decision to end the fight was booed owing to the little time remaining in the match, although the official time of the stoppage was 4:40.

Werdum was strongly favored to win his next fight at UFC 90. However, he was knocked out in 1:20 of the first round by debuting Junior dos Santos by uppercut. The UFC canceled Werdum’s contract following the loss. Werdum had no clue he had been fired because he had not been approached personally about it, and he immediately dismissed the news of his departure from the UFC as a rumor.

Werdum announced a new interact with an unknown promotion. Werdum was then scheduled to face Junior Dos Santos in a bare knuckle MMA fight at a Gamebred FC event on September 8, 2023. He was defeated by a split decision.
