Also, Sporting Director Eric Abidal was relieved of his duties. Despite several protests, Bartomeu himself did not retire his post.
The board did take some measures for damage control after ruining the economy due to the coronavirus pandemic. The majority of the players made up the transfer list. Koeman wants to build his team around Lionel Messi. Also, the gaffer is planning on a formation that reduces the creative duties of the starman. Messi wants to leave this summer came as a shock. The Dutch manager also regards Antoinne Griezmann as he will replace the departing Luis Suarez. Hence, Griezmann can play in a much more central role than the last term limited to the flanks. This means the Frenchman will get ample goal-scoring chances which is a boost. Griezmann did not make an impactful performance since he left Atletico. This season will be a redemption for the attacker.
On the other hand, Luis Suarez is no longer wanted at Barcelona. The club is yet to announce the contract termination. There are some complications in the contract which need to be resolved. Also, club president Bartomeu does not want Suarez to leave for free. According to Marca, Suarez is prohibited to join certain clubs due to the clauses in his contract.

Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain, and Manchester City are the clubs Suarez cannot sign for even though he leaves Barcelona. Atletico was not on the list and so the transfer was ready to go through. Suarez’s transfer will also free up wages for new signings. However, it seems that the Barcelona board is not agreeing that their striker should leave for free.
