Fulham make £16m offer for Barcelona center-back

Barcelona is economically weak this season due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic. Also, the previous big-money signings have adverse effects on the transfer budget this season. Neither of these signings proved worthy of the fees paid. Ousmane Dembele, Philipe Coutinho, and Griezmann all joined for over €100 million. Ronald Koeman is trying to balance the books so that he can go ahead and accommodate his summer targets.

One of the players whom Koeman wants to bring to Camp Nou is former La Masia youngster, Eric Garcia. Barcelona has enquired Manchester City about the 19-year-old and received an asking price of €25 million. The new manager wants to bolster his defense but the lack of funds is a hindrance to the transfer. Barcelona may try to pull off a swap deal offering Rafinha Alcantara and €8 million. However, it is quite doubtful if Manchester City would fancy such a negotiation.

Barcelona in need of funding

Barcelona needs to make another sale similar to Nelson Semedo so that they can enforce the transfer move before the window shuts close on October 5. As per Independent, English Premier League outfit Fulham has submitted an €18 million bid for wantaway defender Jean-Clair Todibo. It was Everton who was pursuing the 20-year-old center back. However, they wanted to take him only on a year-long loan with an option to buy next year.

Barcelona is adamant for a permanent transfer which made Everton shift their focus to Ben Godfrey. Apparently, Todibo spent the last year on loan at Bundesliga for FC Schalke where he did not perform quite well. The French youngster has been inconsistent due to injuries and did not gain enough game time to prove himself at Barcelona. He is also not included in Koeman’s future plans as he will be ready to sell the 20-year-old to bring in Eric Garcia.

The personal terms are yet to be agreed on grounds but Fulham is hopeful to finalize the transfer talks before the deadline. It will be beneficial for both Barca and the English club. Barca can push for Eric Garcia and meeting the terms as well as submit a bid for Lyon’s Memphis Depay. Koeman favours the Dutch as he is a cheap alternative to long term target Inter Milan Striker Lautaro Martinez. Koeman could call himself lucky if he can pull off both the transfers before Monday.
