Granit Xhaka, a midfielder for Arsenal, may be tempted to join Bayer Leverkusen this summer since his wife has wanted to go back to Germany for a while.
German news site Kicker claims that Xhaka’s uncertain destiny this summer is due mostly to considerations related to his family. The Swiss international is enjoying his best season in an Arsenal uniform this year; losing him would be devastating unless a high-priced replacement could be signed.
Xhaka has had his ups and downs throughout his time at the Emirates Stadium, but he has truly turned his career around under Mikel Arteta, and he probably wouldn’t be simply replaced in that box-to-box midfield position that he has performed so successfully this season.
Even if Mikel Arteta’s team doesn’t win the Premier League, Granit Xhaka will have had his greatest season with Arsenal
Although football players are still humans, if Xhaka’s continued presence in London is causing him personal difficulties, Arsenal may be well advised to let him go.
According to Ben Jacobs’s exclusive Caught Offside report from yesterday, one of Arsenal’s top targets in that position is West Ham’s Declan Rice, who may be a suitable substitute.
Even if Mikel Arteta’s team doesn’t win the Premier League, Xhaka will have had his greatest season with Arsenal. The 30-year-old has had his share of difficulties at the Emirates, including a public spat with fans in 2019.
But now that things are looking better, a monkey wrench has been thrown into Xhaka’s plans. There is talk that Leverkusen are interested in signing him this summer when he will have just one year left on his contract with the Gunners.
