“He was a mediocre batsman..” Mohd Yusuf slams Pakistan Cricket Board for appointing Misbah as a coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board has received a lot of stick for appointing Misbah Ul Haq as the coach for the National Cricket team. The Pakistani batting legend Mohd Yusuf has joined the long list of players who have slammed the PCB cricket board for appointing him as the coach. Misbah Ul Haq was appointed as the national coach and also had an additional charge of being the selector of the side. Haq, who is best remembered for his performance in the T20 World Cup amongst others, has taken some stern decisions as a coach, including dropping Azhar Ali from the side.

Mohd Yusuf criticizes Misbah for dropping Azhar Ali:

Mohd Yusuf has stated that Misbah was at best a mediocre batsman and had no right to drop Azhar Ali, who arguably is one of the best players in the side. Yusuf criticized Misbah Ul Haq and raised questions over his honesty and integrity. He stated when Misbah was the captain of the side; he never let Azhar Ali enter into the squad despite Azhar being a better batsman than Misbah.

Mohd Yusuf slammed the batting style of Misbah and said that he was a one-dimensional player and played extremely slow. He kept Azhar out as inclusion of Ali would have meant dropping Misbah Ul Haq from the side.

In a controversial statement to HT, he said: “In my view, Azhar was a better batsman skill-wise and in terms of ability. But because he had to play as an opener or one down and he took his time to settle down, Misbah didn’t want him because he himself took time to settle down and played slowly.”

“He had no skills. He had a one-dimensional game. He played most of the time defensively and only took his chances when the spinners came on.

PCB has double standards- Yusuf:

Mohd Yusuf also slammed the Pakistani cricket board and raised questions on their selection of Misbah as a coach who has no experience in the trait. He quoted, “Appointing Misbah, who has no coaching skills, was equivalent to making a mockery of merit. Another mockery was allowing him to coach in the PSL so that he could gain coaching experience.”

He also mocked PCB, who made Misbah the coach in PSL who give him an ounce of experience.
