Team India has created history by defeating England in the second match of the ongoing test series between the two nations, in the most enthralling fashion. A battle of the Galacticos, it was anticipated that when two of the best test teams in the world square off against each other at the Lord’s, The Home of Cricket, records were going to break and boy did it happen. Both the teams put up a match which was worth every dime and successfully converted the test match into a nail-biting thriller.
The credit to India’s win definitely goes to the combined performances of three of India’s pacers – Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah. Whereas Siraj outshone with the ball in hand, the other two outclassed the rest with their performances in both batting and bowling.
Today’s victory is a comeback for India in two different ways. Firstly, they finished what they had left incomplete in the first test. India were on the verge of winning the first test of the series against England at Trent Bridge but their hopes were marred by the fifth day being washed out by rain. They have now finally received their much deserved victory. Secondly, everyone had written India off after their disappointing performance on Day 4.
A win for England was looking inevitable then and a draw would be considered as a great achievement for India. However, India miraculously pulled it off on the last day courtesy of sensational performances by their players and thus silenced their haters.
With this victory, Virat Kohli overtakes Clive Lloyd and becomes the 4th most successful captain in Test cricket history.
