IPL 2020: KKR’s official statement regarding reports of Sunil Narine’s suspect bowling action

IPL 2020: Sunil Narine produced the match-turning moment for Kolkata Knight Riders in the last two matches, especially in the game against Kings XI Punjab in the last match. However, a piece of bad news was waiting for them after the match as the on-field Umpires reported Sunil Narine for suspect bowling action. Although he is still eligible to bowl, he is in the warning list now. Another report could see him getting banned from bowling.

In the meantime, KKR has come out with an official statement regarding this matter. The match officials’ concern with Sunil Narine’s action surprised them. They stated that Narine has bowled in six matches so far, and none of the officials expressed concerns formally or informally to them. (IPL 2020)

“Mr Sunil Narine was reported for a suspect action by the match officials after KKR’s match vs KXIP held on Oct 10, 2020, in Abu Dhabi. This came as a surprise to the franchise and Mr Narine, considering he has played over 115 games in the IPL since 2012 and as many as 68 games since 2015 when he was last reported during the IPL season for a suspect action before being subsequently cleared completely by SRASSC, an ICC accredited facility.

“Furthermore, he was playing his 6th game this season, with no concerns expressed formally or informally by the match officials so far,” the statement read. (IPL 2020)

However, KKR also assured that they will work closely with the concerned officials in the IPL regarding this matter and will try to resolve the issues regarding Sunil Narine’ action.  “Having said this, we are respectful of the process that the IPL has put in place to have his action reviewed, and are working closely with the IPL in this matter.

“We are hopeful that there would be an appropriate resolution quickly. We appreciate the cooperation being extended by the IPL in expediting this matter,” the statement further read.

There is uncertainty over Sunil Narine’s presence in the next game for KKR against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday. Moreover, Andre Russell got himself injured in the previous game against the Kings XI Punjab. So, KKR could be without their two top overseas players against RCB. Meanwhile, it is expected that Tom Banton and Chris Green will make their IPL and KKR debut. (IPL 2020)
