IPL 2020: The Actual Reason why KXIP did not include Chris Gayle in the playing XI against SRH

IPL 2020: Kings XI Punjab faced off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 22nd match of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. KXIP has already lost four of the five matches they have played. So, they have to desperately win this match. Hence, they made three changes in their playing XI to strike the perfect combination. Fans expected Chris Gayle to be part of the playing XI for the first time in IPL 2020.

However, Gayle was not surprisingly part of the playing XI. They included Prabhsimran Singh, Arshdeep Singh and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in place of Sarfaraz Khan, Harpreet Brar and Chris Jordan respectively. People felt surprised at why Gayle was not included in the lineup.

However, KXIP’s Head Coach Anil Kumble, while speaking to the commentators revealed that they were going to include Chris Gayle in the playing XI. But, he fell sick just before the match. The Universe Boss is suffering from food infection and hence could not feature in the playing XI. “We wanted Chris Gayle in the playing XI, but unfortunately he’s sick,” Kumble said. (IPL 2020)

In the meantime, there is no proper update on when Gayle can feature in the playing XI. The team will be hoping that he recovers soon as they will be facing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday afternoon in Abu Dhabi.

IPL 2020: SRH won the toss and elected to bat first.

Coming to the match, Sunrisers captain David Warner won the toss and elected to bat first. Even, SRH is having a poor start to the IPL 2020, winning only 2 out of the 5 matches they have played. Their leading pace bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been sidelined from the IPL due to injury. Now, they lack experience in their bowling attack. So, they have included Khaleel Ahmed in the XI in place of Siddarth Kaul.

Even, Mitchell Marsh suffered an ankle injury in the very first match of the tournament after bowling an over and was ruled out of the whole tournament. SRH bought Jason Holder as his replacement and he is now available for selection as well. SRH signed Prithvi Raj Yarra as Bhuvi’s replacement who is already with the team in UAE. (IPL 2020)
