Ricky Ponting Again Makes A Huge Statement About Ravi Ashwin

IPL 2020: Delhi Capitals (DC) will face off against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on September 20, today. Rick Ponting, the Head Coach of Delhi has been speaking about the ‘mankading’ issue off late. In the IPL 2019, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Jos Buttler, when he was backing off too far ahead before Ashwin delivered the ball.

This wrecked havoc in the cricketing world. There was a mixed reception regarding Ashwin’s antics. Some said that it breached ‘Spirit Of The Game’. Others found it right because it was within the laws of the game.

Ponting ignited the discussion again in his recent conversation. He got the question that whether he will allow Ashwin to Mankad in the last ball of the IPL. He responded by saying that it is not fair to win the trophy in that way.

IPL 2020: Ricky Ponting again makes a huge statement about Ravi Ashwin

“I’m not gonna bowl Ashwin, the last over of the game. But if that’s the situation I wouldn’t want him to Mankad because that’s going to be a hollow feeling to win an IPL from a Mankad. Although the Mankad is a simply playing rule of the game, but I’m not happy with it,” Ponting said in a virtual chat on Amstrad Insidesport Face 2 Face. (IPL 2020)

He even heaped praise on Ajinkya Rahane, the new inclusion in his side and even praised the captain, Shreyas Iyer. However, he still said that Ajinkya Rahane will not be an automatic pick in the side. (IPL 2020)

“No, he’s not an automatic selection, and I’ve already spoken to him about that. That was the first conversation I had with him when I landed here about the expectations of him and how I want him to play and two about the areas where I could work with him to improve his T20 batting,” Ponting concluded.

Although the team is confident, it will be interesting to see how they perform on the field. They will face off against the Kings XI Punjab tonight in Dubai. (IPL 2020)
