IPL 2020: Former India player makes a big comment regarding MS Dhoni’s poor run of form

Former India international Syed Kirmani has slammed all of them who are criticising MS Dhoni for his poor run of form in IPL 2020. The Chennai Super Kings captain, MS Dhoni has suffered both as a captain and a player in the 13th edition of the IPL. He has not been successful in guiding CSK past the winning line.

CSK are currently in the 7th position in the points table just above the Kings XI Punjab. Chennai has won only two of the seven games they have played in IPL 2020. Kirmani has come out in support of Dhoni and said that cricketers do go through both tough and good times.

“There is a time in the career of every player to escalate, similarly there is also a time to come down. Things change with time, I take pity on those who are criticising Dhoni for his performance,” Kirmani was quoted as saying in The Indian Express.

Syed Kirmani feels that the long break has hampered MS Dhoni’s performance in IPL 2020.

Dhoni went into a sabbatical after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. On August 15, 2020, he announced his retirement from international cricket. So, the World Cup 2019 semi-final against New Zealand turned out to be the final match for MS Dhoni in national colours. Dhoni made his comeback to cricket after 14 months in IPL 2020, and Kirmani feels that the long break has hampered MS Dhoni’s performance in IPL 2020.

“We must not forget that Dhoni had been one of the best finishers of the game at one point in time. He is returning to cricket after a long sabbatical and it has impacted Mahi’s (Dhoni) performance in this IPL season,” he stated.

“At this age, people don’t have that much agility left, compared to youngsters. Besides, a player has lots of tension regarding his future endeavours. It’s natural and obvious and we must accept it,” Kirmani added.

MS Dhoni has scored 112 runs in the seven games that he has played in the IPL. He has an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 131.76. Dhoni scored an unbeaten 47 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Dubai, but failed to guide his team to victory. MS Dhoni’s CSK will be again up against SRH in their next match on Tuesday, October 13 in Dubai.
