IPL 2020: Virender Sehwag makes a big comment on Virat Kohli amid the criticisms

Virat Kohli is under a lot of pressure and is facing severe criticisms for not being able to put up a successful display in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered a six-wicket defeat in the Eliminator of IPL 2020 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kohli’s RCB suffered a 5th defeat in a row.

RCB’s exit from the IPL 2020 has extended their painful wait for an IPL title. They are one of the three teams in the IPL who have still not won an IPL trophy despite playing from the first season. Kohli has been the captain of the team from 2013 and is now again facing severe criticisms for failing to deliver. Former India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir recently criticised Kohli and suggested RCB to sack him as the skipper of the team.

Several cricketers and fans have severely criticised Virat Kohli for RCB’s failure off late. However, former India opener Virender Sehwag has defended Virat Kohli and called him a fine captain. Sehwag feels that an unbalanced team is letting down Virat Kohli as a captain.

Sehwag stressed on Kohli’s numbers as Indian Cricket Team captain. According to Sehwag, RCB should focus on building a strong and balanced team, instead of sacking their captain. Kohli definitely possesses good numbers as a captain of Team India across all formats.

“A captain is only as good as his team. When Virat Kohli captains India, he is able to deliver the results. He wins matches – ODIs, T20Is Tests. But when he captains RCB, his team is not able to perform,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

“It is very important for the captain to have a good team. So, I believe the management should not try and think of changing their captain and rather think of how they can improve this team. Who all should be added to the team to make sure their performance improves?” he added.

Sehwag feels that RCB did not have a settled batting order. They were over-dependent on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. He feels that RCB needs to have a good opener along with a decent lower-order batsman. “Every team has a settled batting order but RCB have never had that. It’s only ABD and Virat, who keep shuffling up and down the order,” Sehwag said.

“With Padikkal coming to the fore, I reckon RCB need to have one more opener and a good lower-order batsman. These five batsmen should be enough to win them matches. The same way, they’d have to trust their Indian fast bowlers. Everyone gets taken to the cleaners. It’s not as if Rabada, Morris and others haven’t been taken for runs,” he added. (IPL 2020)
