Irfan Pathan Makes A Huge Statement On The Batting Position Of MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings have had a tough start to their IPL 2020 campaign. CSK defeated the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the inaugural match of the IPL 2020. However, they suffered two consecutive defeats against the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals respectively in the next two matches.

The MS Dhoni-led side failed to chase down the totals against the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. So, they slipped down to the bottom of the points table due to these 2 losses. MS Dhoni also faced heavy criticism for his decision to demote himself down the batting order.

Speaking about CSK’s shaky start in the IPL so far, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has said that MS Dhoni should at least bat 10 overs in the upcoming matches of the team. Irfan also feels that CSK should include an additional bowler in their playing XI.

Irfan Pathan feels that CSK is not balanced for the first time in IPL history.

Both Irfan Pathan and Sanjay Bangar talked about CSK’s problems in this year’s IPL so far. Irfan said that CSK is looking unsettled for the first time in IPL history.

“For the first time, it is looking that the Chennai Super Kings team is not settled. They had problems before the start of the IPL, Suresh Raina went back and they have not taken a replacement for him till now,” said Irfan on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

Irfan feels that MS Dhoni himself should bat for at least 10 overs instead of searching for someone in the finisher’s role. “The teams which have been playing with an additional bowler in the IPL are looking stronger. More than a finisher, MS Dhoni is himself such a great finisher.

He needs to ensure that he plays at least 10 overs and Chennai Super Kings must field an extra bowler. Then the rest of the things will be set,” added Irfan, who was also a part of the CSK side in 2015.

Irfan also stated that Suresh Raina’s absence from the team has disrupted the balance of the side. In the absence of Raina, CSK has started to play with just five bowlers to strengthen the batting.

“If Suresh Raina had been batting at No.3, they could have played an extra bowler. Currently, they have only 5 bowlers. Kedar Jadhav not being bowled by MS Dhoni is also a cause of concern,” said Irfan.
