Jose Aldo Career

In his early years as a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, Jose obtained the moniker “Junior.” At 17, he fought his first professional bout, winning with a decisive TKO 16 seconds into the first round. This trend continued in his subsequent episodes, concluding with powerful knockouts or the referee stops. In 2005, when he was defeated by the accomplished Luta Livre black belt Luciano Azevedo, this winning sequence ended.

Aldo triumphed in some bouts before entering the WEC after a successful comeback. This would begin his ascent to prominence as a world-renowned combatant. In 2008, he debuted with the WEC in a match against Alexandre Franca Nogueira. Aldo ended the fight in just eight seconds with a high knee to the face. In the second round, he submitted Mike Brown for his second consecutive victory.

Another victory came against Urijah Faber in 2010, which he won unanimously. Jose effectively defended his featherweight championship against Manvel Gamburyan, striking him out in 92 seconds of the second round.

In 2015, José’s winning sequence would end with a defeat at the hands of Conor McGregor. McGregor knocked out Aldo 13 seconds into the first round of UFC 194, resulting in Aldo’s first loss in over ten years.

However, after McGregor was deprived of it, Jose vanquished Frankie Edgar again and regained the featherweight title. However, his reign was brief, as he was defeated by Max Holloway at UFC 212 in 2017. Despite a rematch later that year, Aldo was defeated by Holloway in the same manner.

Over the subsequent years, Jose’s reputation for invincibility was beginning to wane. Although he won bouts against Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicana in 2019, he also lost to Alexander Volkanovski. Later that year, Aldo declared his intention to move down to Bantamweight.

His first bout in this division was against Marlon Moraes, whom he lost. The Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 slowed down his career, but he fought again at UFC 251, only to lose to Petr Yan. Nonetheless, he rebounded with a victory over Marlon Vera. It was announced in 2021 that José would fight Pedro Munhoz.

Aldo made his professional boxing debut on April 1, 2023, against American mixed martial artist Jeremy Stephens on the undercard of Roy Jones Jr. vs. Anthony Pettis at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The fight was decided by a majority draw. He defeated Brazilian professional boxer Esteban Gabriel Espindola by unanimous decision on July 2, 2023, at the Nova Uniano Upper Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
