Junior Dos Santos Biography: Junior Dos Santos was born in Cacador, Brazil, on January 30, 1984. Dos Santos and his two siblings were raised by Maria, a single parent, after his alcoholic father, Sebastian, abandoned the family in the mid-1990s. To support his family, he began working at age ten. During his adolescence, he practiced capoeira.
At the age of 21, he began training Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Yuri Carlton and took martial arts seriously. Dos Santos won a few jiu-jitsu competitions in Salvador after six months of training. A year later, an acquaintance invited Dos Santos to a boxing practice, where he met his boxing coach Luiz Carlos Dórea. Dórea also trained in mixed martial arts, and approximately one year after beginning boxing training, he had his first professional bout.

Dos Santos made his professional debut in 2006 at the age of 22. In Brazil, he competed in lesser promotions like Demo Fight, Extreme Fighting Championship, Minotauro Fights, and Mo Team League. He won six of his first seven fights, losing only to an opponent he had previously defeated, Joaquim Ferreira.
Dos Santos made his UFC debut on October 25, 2008, at UFC 90. He knocked out top contender Fabricio Werdum in 1 minute 20 seconds of the first round, earning him the “Knockout of the Year” accolade. On February 21, 2009, at UFC 95, he fought promotional newcomer Stefan Struve, defeating him by knockout at 54 seconds of the first round.
