Kylian Mbappe Transfer News: Liverpool FC joins the race to sign PSG’s Kylian Mbappe

Premier League giants Liverpool FC have reportedly made early contacts with Serie A side Paris Saint Germain, enquiring about the availability of French winger Kylian Mbappe. However, spanish news outlet Marca reports that the enquiry is more out of hope than expectation, particularly with regards to this summer.

According to sources, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has admitted that it is financially impossible for them to even think of a move for the 22-year old prodigy winger this transfer window. The pandemic has affected almost all the clubs globally and the two big Spanish clubs – FC Barcelona and Real Madrid fall in the list of the most severely affected clubs. It is this economic chaos which will hinder the Los Blancos to sign their next dream ‘Galactico’ – Kylian Mbappe.

However, it is now clear that when Real Madrid manage to raise the funds to place a bid for the Frenchman, they will not have a clear path with Liverpool FC now seemingly having joined the race.

PSG do not want to sell Kylian Mbappe this summer

The Serie A side has been very clear in their intentions from the beginning regarding the transfer rumours of Kylian Mbappe. They do not want to let go of their talisman. PSG have made significant improvements in their never-ending expedition of achieving European Glory since signing Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr from Monaco and FC Barcelona respectively.

In the 2019-20 season, they reached the finals of UEFA Champions League for the first time (lost to Bayern Munich) and came very close to lifting the trophy. In the 2020-21 season too, the Parisians defeated the likes of FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich in the knockout stages of Champions League and reached the Semi-finals where they were defeated by Manchester City.

PSG’s current project is therefore very strong and they are this close from winning their first European trophy. At this point, PSG will, in no way, want to break their momentum by giving away Kylian Mbappe, who is the rock upon which they have built their project.

PSG’s president Nasser El-Khelaifi gave an interview a few months ago in which he made it very clear that Kylian Mbappe is not sellable’

The Parisians are moreover looking to make some big signings this summer, namely Sergio Ramos and Achraf Hakimi which might lure Kylian Mbappe to stay.

Will Mbappe move to Anfield?

Rumours of Kylian Mbappe considering a move to Liverpool have only grown over time

The chances of Kylian Mbappe considering a move to Anfield should not be dismissed altogether. Afterall, the Reds have won the Champions League more recently as compared to the La Liga giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. It is, however, unlikely that the youngster will move to Liverpool, mainly because of the sort of money involved.

The chances of a transfer this summer can be dismissed straightaway with the only plausible option being a free transfer next season. (Yeah i know, Sounds outrageous right?)

Marca says: “A signing on fee and payment to agents would increase, whilst Mbappe has more than earned the right to ask for the highest salary in world football, which Liverpool can’t afford to pay, nor would they want to.”

Liverpool need to sell Salah or Mane

To even consider the possibility of Liverpool being able to afford the wages of Kylian Mbappe, the Reds will have to sell either Mohamed Salah, or Sadio Mane, or both.

The problem will however be to find a buyer. Both the forwards have made an image of being ‘Liverpool players’ that will suit only Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.

Liverpool can also opt for a swap deal with PSG including these players, but reports say that the club is planning for a longer-term future for them.
