Beginning in 2015, Stroll won the New Zealand-based Toyota Racing series with ten podium finishes, including four victories, in 16 races. The same year, he competed in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship for Prema Powerteam, a company where his father had a stake. He competed against future Formula One drivers Antonio Giovinazzi, Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Alexander Albon. He won one race at the Hockenheimring and finished on the podium six times throughout 33 races. He finished fifth in the championship standings. Stroll only appeared at the non-championship Formula Three Macau Grand Prix in 2015, where he finished eighth.
On November 11, 2015, it was announced that Stroll would be leaving the Ferrari Driver Academy to become a test driver for Williams. At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Stroll experienced his first mechanical retirement of the season, and after a turbulent race at the Australian Grand Prix, he finished fourth. Stroll finished seventh in Azerbaijan and twelfth after being eliminated in the first round of competition in Miami.
