Logan Sargeant Biography: Logan Sargeant was born on December 31, 2000, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, US. In 2008, Sargeant began his motorsports career in karting. In his first year of competition, he finished third in the Florida Winter Tour and the Rotax Max Challenge USA in the Rotax Micro Max class at regional and national championships. After moving to Europe, Sargeant participated in the ROK Cup International Final, Trofeo Dell’Industrie, and WSK Euro Series. In 2015, Sargeant claimed the CIK-FIA World KFJ Championship, becoming the first American since Lake Speed in 1978 to win the FIA Karting World Championship. Sargeant won his first senior karting championship in the OK division of the 2016 WSK Champions Cup.

Logan Sargeant F1 Career

On the weekend of the United States Grand Prix in October 2021, it was announced that Sargeant would join the Williams Driver Academy. During the postseason test, he drove the Williams FW43B around the Yas Marina Circuit for the first time. He defined his first ride in an F1 car as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

At the 2022 United States Grand Prix, Sargeant debuted in Formula One practice for Williams. He was the first American driver since Alexander Rossi in 2015 to participate in a weekend session. Williams’ team principal Jost Capito stated that Sargeant’s free practice debut “was both a pleasure and a pressure” Sargeant drove the Williams at the Grand Prix of Mexico City, the Grand Prix of Sao Paulo, and the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi.

Capito confirmed during the weekend of the 2022 United States Grand Prix that Sargeant would drive for the British constructor in 2023 if he obtained the required Super Licence points, which needed him to finish at least fifth in the F2 championship. Capito also stated that the American’s nationality was not a factor in his promotion. Following F2’s Abu Dhabi main event, Sargeant secured the necessary super license points.

On November 21, 2022, it was announced that for the 2023 season, Nicholas Latifi would be replaced by Sargeant, who would drive alongside Alexander Albon. Sargeant participated in postseason testing with the Williams FW44 in Abu Dhabi after the 2022 season concluded. Sargeant chose the number 2 as his permanent driver number; Stoffel Vandoorne had used the number in 2017 and 2018.

At the season premiere in Bahrain, Sargeant qualified 16th simultaneously with Lando Norris of McLaren. However, because Norris set the fastest lap time, he advanced to Q2. Sargeant finished 12th in the event, two spots behind his teammate. Sargeant raced as high as eighth in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix before finishing 16th. In the difficult Australian Grand Prix, he retired after colliding with Nyck De Vries during the multi-car accident at the third restart, but he was still ranked sixteenth. In the next race, he finished 16th, four positions behind Albon, and in the Miami Grand Prix, he finished 20th.

In the Monaco Grand Prix, Sargeant was running 15th when his tires began to degrade, causing him to finish 18th. He finished 20th and last at the Spanish Grand Prix once again. Due to a technical issue, Sargeant retired from the Canadian Grand Prix. Sargeant placed thirteenth in Austria and eleventh in the British Grand Prix, four seconds behind Carlos Sainz in tenth position. Sargeant qualified last for the Hungarian Grand Prix and eventually retired after losing control. Due to rainy conditions, he crashed during FP1 at the Belgian Grand Prix. Fortunately, he avoided significant damage and completed the main event in seventeenth place.
