There had been some differences between the club and the defender over his wages and increased demands for quite some time now. At the end both the parties could not negotiate an agreement which ultimately resulted in the talismanic defender becoming a free agent. He has been linked with a move to the Premier League with the two Manchester clubs being reportedly interested in him. However, a return to his boyhood club Sevilla is also a possibility.

A 19 year old Sergio Ramos had joined Real Madrid from Seville in the year 2005 with a heart full of dreams. 16 years later as he leaves the club, Sergio Ramos is a Real Madrid legend and probably the best captain in their history.

Sergio Ramos made 671 appearances for La Casa Blanca in which he scored 101 goals. Quite an astonishing number for a centre back.

Ramos has won 4 Champions League and 5 La Liga titles in the Real Madrid colours. He has also had great achievements for his national side Spain during his tenure at Real Madrid, having won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Euro Cup.

The 2020-21 season was the worst season in Sergio Ramos’ career. Due to COVID-19 and injury crisis, Ramos could feature in 21 games for the Los Blancos this season across all the competitions. The biggest blow was probably being left out of Spain’s squad for Euro 2020.

The sudden departure of a club legend like Sergio Ramos has been shocking and heartbreaking for Real Madrid fans all over the world. Their ‘El Capitan’ deserved a much more respectful departure. But then again, almost every Real Madrid legend has left the club without a proper farewell.
