Most of dos Anjos’s early time was spent in his native Brazil. He began his career with a record of 2-2; both defeats were by split decision. Dos Anjos then racked up nine straight victories, including six submissions. His regional record of 11–2 was sufficient to earn him a visit from the UFC.

Dos Anjos lost his UFC debut to Jeremy Stephens at UFC 91. Dos Anjos was knocked out in the third round after receiving an uppercut. At UFC Fight Night 18, dos Anjos faced Tyson Griffin in his second UFC bout. Dos Anjos was defeated in the back-and-forth fight by unanimous decision. The match was awarded the Fight of the Night.

Dos Anjos was scheduled to fight Matt Wiman at UFC 103 on September 19, 2009, but due to Wiman’s knee injury, he instead faced Rob Emerson. Dos Anjos won a significant victory by unanimous decision. Dos Anjos fought Mark Bocek at UFC 154 on November 17, 2012. Again, he had the upper hand in both stand-up and ground combat and won the fight unanimously.

Dos Anjos was set to face Vicente Luque at UFC on ESPN 49 on July 15, 2023. For unclear reasons, the bout was rescheduled for August 12, 2023, at UFC on ESPN: Luque vs. dos Anjos. Dos Anjos was defeated by a unanimous decision.

Dos Anjos is well-known for his aggressive, high-volume strikes, physical strength, and formidable takedown abilities. Typically, he will enter in an aggressive Muay Thai posture, use tricks and kicks to back his opponent against the cage, and then overwhelm them with punches and takedowns.

He uses his left kick to the body and right punch to the head to limit his opponent’s lateral movement as they attempt to move away from the fence.
