Most of dos Anjos’s early time was spent in his native Brazil. He began his career with a record of 2-2; both defeats were by split decision. Dos Anjos then racked up nine straight victories, including six submissions. His regional record of 11–2 was sufficient to earn him a visit from the UFC.
Dos Anjos lost his UFC debut to Jeremy Stephens at UFC 91. Dos Anjos was knocked out in the third round after receiving an uppercut.
