The renowned captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MS Dhoni, has received high praise from former India player and head coach Ravi Shastri. The crucial final stretch of the present IPL 2023 season is well underway, and the yellow brigade is on the edge of securing a spot in the playoffs.
Shastri praised Dhoni after thinking about CSK’s season and their prospects of entering the playoffs, saying that the 41-year-old has the sense to find the optimum combinations. He continued by saying that the team would not be making any lineup changes until after the playoffs, even if injuries arose.
Ravi Shastri heaps praise on MS Dhoni for managing CSK in IPL 2023
“He’s (MS Dhoni) a master at creating combination. It’s intuitive, it’s understanding. Probably persisting with a guy who might not be good in 2022, but having the foresight to believe that he’ll be very good in 2023, giving him the confidence in 2022 to go through the grind. Thinking ahead. He would have done that with few players. I won’t be surprised. I am not in the mix there. I won’t know,” Ravi Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo.
“But definitely he thinks in that fashion. When you look at this side now, who looks almost certain to make it to the playoffs and looks extremely dangerous when it comes to the playoffs, two games in Chennai, it’s a team that can go the distance. Because it’s already settled. If there is any tinkering, it will be because of injury. Otherwise, they’ve got it right,” he added.
The Men in Yellow have had a successful season so far, as seen by their current position as runners-up in the IPL Points Table after collecting 13 points with six wins (one of which ended in a no-result tie). CSK still has three group games to play and will be looking to continue their impressive streak to formally secure their spot.
The team will be driven to win their fifth championship to give their captain a fitting farewell amid rumors that he may retire after the 16th edition. On Wednesday, May 10, CSK will play Delhi at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
