Aakash Chopra Points Out The Major Mistakes In Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Squad.

RCB IPL 2020: The former India Test cricketer and current commentator, Aakash Chopra, has analysed the team of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the start of the IPL 2020. RCB has not won a single IPL trophy in the 12 years. During his analysis, Chopra stressed on the flaws and weaknesses in this year’s RCB team. He also highlighted the mistakes of the RCB selectors in the auction, which can cause problems for the Virat Kohli led-side in this year’s IPL.

Chopra felt that there are some serious weaknesses in the squad and the selector could not mend it in the auction last year. He also added that it is hard to mend those weaknesses through the trading windows. (RCB IPL 2020)

“There are some glaring weaknesses in the RCB squad. It is true that when you have not done well in the first big auction, you are always left behind. Because even if you try to pick players in mini auctions or trading windows, you have gaping holes and you don’t get the right players to fill them,” Aakash said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.

Aakash Chopra first expressed his views about the RCB batting lineup. He felt that RCB has been successful in adding firepower to the finisher role in the team. They have included the likes of Shivam Dube, Chris Morris, Washington Sundar and Moeen Ali. According to Chopra, the management should invest their faith in Indian duo of Dube and Sundar ahead of Morris and Moeen due to their exposure and experience. (RCB IPL 2020)

“One of their problems has been their death over batting. If AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli play till the end it is fine, but if not then who? It can be a matter of concern although it is better than earlier because they have Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar and Chris Morris,” the 42-year-old said.

“Dube and Sundar have played quite a bit for India and have scored runs and done their job, they are far more experienced. They should play Moeen Ali down the order and with the new acquisition Chris Morris, the four of them together can do the job even though they may not be the best in the world,” he added.

Chopra even went on to say that the death bowling will again be an issue for Virat Kohli and Co. None of the pacers from the likes of Chris Morris, Dale Steyn, Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj is renowned death bowler. Death bowling has always served to be the biggest problem for the Bangalore side in the last few years. (RCB IPL 2020)

“The second problem is the death over bowling. Chris Morris is not a gun death bowler, even if you play Dale Steyn, he is also not a gun death bowler. Then who is the gun death bowler – Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj – they do not inspire the confidence that you would perhaps want.

Their threat is that they are not able to play the correct XI. That has been a bit of a concern and they become a little impatient. I would say pick your four overseas and stick with them for a little while. Same is the case with their Indian players,” Chopra further said. (RCB IPL 2020)

Chopra concluded by saying that RCB’s past failures can serve as trouble for the team this year as well. The side can lose confidence and may not make use of their full potential. So, he feels that it is important for RCB to win the initial few matches of the season and cash on the momentum. (RCB IPL 2020)
