Renan Barao Career
Baro was scheduled to make his UFC debut against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 130 on May 28, 2011. However, an unspecified injury forced Brad Pickett out of his bout with Miguel Torres on the same night. Johnson was promoted to face Torres, while Baro fought Cole Escovedo. Baro won his first bout as a company member by unanimous decision.
Baro fought Brad Pickett at UFC 138 on November 5, 2011. He beat Pickett in the first round via rear-naked choke submission, winning Fight of the Night honors. Baro fought Scott Jorgensen at UFC 143 on February 4, 2012. He won by unanimous decision.
Baro was scheduled to face Ivan Menjivar at UFC 148 on July 7, 2012, to decide the number one contender. After current champion Dominick Cruz was injured, Baro challenged Urijah Faber for the Interim Bantamweight championship instead. It was initially scheduled to take place at UFC 148. Still, due to an injury to headliner José Aldo (who was set to defend his championship in the event’s primary event fight), the Faber/Baro fight was changed to July 21, 2012, and headlined UFC 149.

However, on a January 6 SportsCenter episode, UFC president Dana White announced that Dominick Cruz had torn his groin and would thus be stripped of the UFC Bantamweight Championship and that Baro would become the undisputed UFC Bantamweight Champion with his first unified title defense against Urijah Faber at UFC 169. Baro successfully defended his championship by beating Faber in the first round via TKO.
On May 24, 2014, Baro faced T.J. Dillashaw in the main event of UFC 173 for his second championship defense. Dillashaw overwhelmingly defeated Baro, outstriking him in all five rounds. Dillashaw won through TKO in the fifth round to become the new UFC Bantamweight Champion. It was one of the most stunning shocks in UFC history. The fight was named Fight of the Night.

The news surfaced on August 3, 2020, that Baro has signed a three-fight contract with Taura MMA. He was set to make his professional debut on November 21, 2020, against Bobby Moffett at Taura MMA 12. However, due to COVID-19 pandemic-related issues, the event was canceled.
Baro was scheduled to face Tyson Duckworth for the Premier FC Featherweight Championship on November 19, 2021, at Premier FC 32. On the other hand, Duckworth backed out of the fight the day before, unable to make his trip.
