As India seems to get back on track after the setback of Covid-19, the government of India has decided to honor the major players for their contributions to sports like every year. BCCI has nominated four players for the different categories of the sports award.
Rohit Sharma to get Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna:
BCCI has declared that the current vice-captain of the limited over a squad of the Indian national team Rohit Sharma has been nominated for the highest honor for an Indian Sportsperson. The highest possible sporting award Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award will be bestowed upon Rohit Sharma for his tremendous achievements in the game of Cricket.
Two other players, Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma will also get Arjuna Award for their utmost level for commitments and achievements in the game of cricket. Shikhar Dhawan narrowly missed on Arjuna Awards in 2018. However, BCCI made sure that the 34-year old is awarded this time.
In a bid to promote Women’s cricket, BCCI has also nominated Deepti Sharma for the Arjuna Award. Deepti Sharma is a world-renowned all-rounder and has won many games for India with her all-round display. She is the only female cricketer in the list this year.

Sourav Ganguly spoke about the nominations. He said, “We went through a lot of data and considered various parameters before shortlisting the nominees. Rohit Sharma has set new benchmarks as a batsman and achieved scores people thought were not possible in the shorter formats of the game. We feel he is worthy of getting the prestigious Khel Ratna award for his commitment, conduct, consistency, and leadership skills.
Ganguly also talked about Ishant Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, “Ishant Sharma is the most senior member of the Test squad, and his contribution has been vital in Indian team’s long run as the No. 1 Test side. Fast bowlers are prone to injuries, and Ishant has had a fair share of them, but he has fought hard to be back in the park every time. Shikhar has been consistently scoring at the top, and his performances in the ICC events have been significant. Deepti is a genuine all-rounder, and her contribution to the team has been vital,
