Rose Namajunas Biography: Rose Gertrude Namajunas is an American MMA fighter. She is a former two-time UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion and now fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s women’s strawweight division.

Rose Namajunas Biography: Rose Namajunas was born on June 29, 1992, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. Namajunas’s father, Arturas, suffered from schizophrenia and left the family when Rose was young. He died of pneumonia in Germany in 2008, when Rose was 16 years old. Her mother was a skilled pianist who attended the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Namajunas grew born in a rough area in Milwaukee, where she saw violence from an early age. Her mother worked a lot, and her brother came home just seldom. Her neighborhood friends dubbed her “Thug Rose” because she was the only white girl among them and the tiniest, yet she acted harder than any of them. Namajunas said that she was a victim of child sexual abuse, although she does not wish to discuss details. She competed as a cross-country runner at Milwaukee High School of the Arts.

Namajunas was scheduled to face Nina Ansaroff in a preliminary bout at UFC 187 on May 23, 2015. Ansaroff missed weight by 4 pounds before the bout and received 20% of her fight purse. A few hours before the event, Ansaroff was declared medically unsuitable to compete due to illness, and the fight was canceled. According to Ansaroff’s camp, she contracted the flu a week prior, and the weight cut exacerbated the disease, compelling her to give up her weight cut and ultimately withdraw from the fight. Despite failing to complete the bout, Namajunas was paid her total purse (show- and prize money).

Namajunas fought Angela Hill at UFC 192 on October 3, 2015. Following a series of striking exchanges on the feet, Namajunas knocked Hill down with a strike. Hill was submitted in the first round after Namajunas swiftly secured a rear-naked choke as Hill stood up. In relief of the injured Joanne Calderwood, Namajunas faced Paige VanZant in the main UFC Fight Night 80 event on December 10, 2015, in a fast turnaround.
