Fischer finished third in a race celebrating the reopening of the German motor racing circuit AVUS. It was closed for fourteen years and damaged during World War II. Three hundred fifty thousand people witnessed Paul Greifzu of Suhl, Thuringia, win in a car he made himself. Fischer achieved third place driving a Ferrari over 207.5 kilometers. One hour, 10 minutes, and 27.5 seconds were his time. Fischer finished second to Piero Taruffi in the 1952 Swiss Grand Prix in Bern; both drivers were Ferraris.
