Sergei Kharitonov Biography: Sergei Valerievich Kharitonov is a former kickboxer and professional heavyweight MMA fighter from Russia. Kharitonov has competed in the Japanese MMA companies PRIDE Fighting Championships & DREAM, Bellator MMA, M-1 Global, Strikeforce, and GLORY since 2000.

Sergei Kharitonov Biography: Sergei Kharitonov was born on August 18, 1980, in Plesetsk, Russian Soviet Socialist Republic. Sergei’s mother was a volleyball coach, while his father studied boxing, skating, football, and long-distance marathon running at various periods. Sergei was physically active as a child under their influence.

Kharitonov graduated from high school with a music concentration. Sergei went on to the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne Command School and, after finishing the academy, joined the Russian Airborne Troops on the recommendation of his parents and his desires. Kharitonov credits his psychological abilities to his army and academy time.

Sergei stayed on active duty while training full-time until he resigned from the military in the late 2010s. Captain is his military rank. Sergey Haritonov, a much more well-known mixed martial arts competitor from Estonia, can sometimes be confused with Kharitonov.

Sergei’s father initially inspired his interest in athletics while he was still in kindergarten when his father was teaching him. Kharitonov began training boxing seriously at the age of ten or eleven, following an incident where a drunk adult spectator broke up a fight between Sergei and another boy by raising Sergei in the air, punching him in the face, and cutting his eyebrow with that blow. He defended his actions by stating that Sergei should not have hit a downed opponent.

Kharitonov began his study of Combat Sambo at the age of sixteen. While at the Airborne Troops Academy, Sergei began competing in hand-to-hand combat and mixed martial arts. Vladimir Pogodin, the manager of the Russian Top Team, contacted Kharitonov after he graduated from the Academy and invited him to join the club.

Fedor Emelianenko initially asked Sergei to be his sparring partner, training him in many fighting techniques, including ground strikes and submissions. In October 2003, Sergei made his debut in the Pride Fighting Championships, one of the two best MMA organizations in the world at the time.

On February 3, 2016, it was announced that Kharitonov had signed with Bellator. Kharitonov debuted against Javy Ayala at Bellator 162 on November 4, 2016. He lost the fight via first-round TKO. On March 31, 2017, Kharitonov faced Chase Gormley at Bellator 175. He won the fight via first-round TKO. On October 12, 2018, Kharitonov fought Roy Nelson in the co-main event of Bellator 207. He won the match via first-round TKO.

Sergei Kharitonov Biography

Kharitonov signed a new multi-fight contract with Bellator after his bout with Nelson & headlined Bellator 215 against Matt Mitrione on February 15, 2019. Fifteen seconds into the first round, Mitrione accidentally hit Kharitonov in the groin, and Kharitonov could not continue. As a result, the fight was declared a no-contest.

Kharitonov fought Mitrione in an immediate rematch six months later, on August 24, 2019, at Bellator 225, second round knockout-style victory. On November 14, 2019, Kharitonov headlined Bellator 234 against Linton Vassell. He was knocked out in the second round of the match.

On February 23, 2020, Kharitonov faced Fernando Rodrigues Jr. at World Total Kombat Federation 5. He won the WTKF Heavyweight Title with a second-round TKO victory. Next, Kharitonov was scheduled to rematch Linton Vassell in May 2020, but the bout was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eagle FC Career

Kharitonov returned to MMA after a year and a half break to face Tiago Cardoso on September 23, 2023 at MMA Series 72, winning by TKO in the first round.
