Indian Women’s Cricketer Shikha Pandey has just pulled off a delivery that is bound to give some tough competition in it’s beauty to Shane Warne’s ball of the century. In the ongoing T20 series between India Women and Australia Women, India might have suffered a bitter defeat in the hands of their arch rivals, but this particular delivery by the 32-year old IAF air traffic control officer turned cricketer will be remembered for eternity.
In the match that was played yesterday at the Metricon stadium, Australia won the toss and looking analysing the pitch report closely, chose to bowl first. It turned out to be just the right decision as they packed up the entire in-form Indian team for just 118 runs, which was quite easily attainable by the Australian batters.
It turned out to be true in the end but the start that Shikha Pandey gave to India had surely unnerved the entire Australian batting unit to the very core. Australia’s wicketkeeper-batsman Alyssa Healy who is also their best batsman at this point, had pretty convincingly being scoring good runs in the tour so far but Indian pacer Shikha Pandey totally found the better of her with a cracker of a delivery than took a curve which reminded viewers of the spin that Shane Warne’s ball of the century had achieved. It will be right to call it as swing in this case though as Shikha Pandey is a pacer.
Healy herself, the entire Australian rooster and the commentators were all surprised by the insane swing that the ball had achieved and Cricket Australia posted a video of the delivery on their official twitter handle. The post got viral in no time and the word of Shikha’s brilliance spread all across the platform.
The delivery has created quite a buzz in the public for Women’s cricket in India and although India lost the match, that particular delivery is being talked about the most.
