Former Pakistan fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar has always been bold in voicing his thoughts regarding world cricket. Currently, he runs his own Youtube Channel. He often lavishes praises on the Indian cricketers and the Indian Cricket Team captain, Virat Kohli. During a recent interaction, he faced a question regarding the criticism he faces from the Pakistan fans while praising the Indian cricketers.
The Rawalpindi expressed highlighted the recent difference in the cricket levels of the Indian Cricket Team and the Pakistan Cricket Team. Akhtar heaped praise on Virat Kohli and called him the best player in the world currently. He also advised the Pakistan fans to check the stats before throwing questions at his statement.
“I don’t know why people are angry, they should go look at the stats first before criticising me. Do they want to keep the hatred in mind, that just because he is an Indian, we will not praise him?” Shoaib Akhtar said on the YouTube Show ‘Cricket Pakistan’.
Shoaib Akhtar advises Pakistan to follow India’s approach.
He lauded BCCI for supporting the players and bring up top players at the international level. PCB has failed to replicate the same thing. This is why Indian Cricket has grown leaps and bounds and Pakistan has fallen back of late. Akhtar advised Pakistan to learn from India and he also said that it was exactly the opposite in the ’90s.
“Why do you always try to find faults, why don’t you try and be like them. There was a time when Indians wanted to be like Pakistan. Now, Pakistan wants to be like Indians. In the late 90s, India would raise their hands that we don’t want to play in Sharjah against Pakistan.
“Our mindset was made to change by bringing average people on the top. They brought average people to be the captain of the team. Look at what India got – they made Virat Kohli the captain, an aggressive player. Who did we bring?” Akhtar further added.
Shoaib Akhtar also stated that he did not get any sort of proposal to become the chief selector of the Pakistan cricket. He feels that a chief selector should bring about a change in the whole mindset of the team. A straightforward person will be a perfect candidate for that role.
“Nobody has approached me for the role of the chief selector. Be it me or any other person, the important thing as a chief selector is the change in mindset –which we desperately need. But I do know that the general public wants someone who thinks like me in charge of selecting players. A person who is straightforward and demands performances from the cricketers.” he concluded.
