Cristian Romero is very close to join Tottenham Hotspurs and is yet to undergo medicals in the following days. The young Argentine is keen to join Spurs and is ready to fly to London for the next stage of the move once the deal is fully agreed. Spurs have increased their offer to £42.7m plus bonuses, making a total package worth £47m for the Argentina centre-back. This meets Atalanta’s valuation of the player and the hope is that this offer will be accepted once the Serie A club have secured their replacement.
According to Sky Sports Italia, Cristian Romero’s move to Tottenham is a done deal. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday confirmed the commencement of the deal between the two parties. According to the Italian broadcasters, the North London club and Atalanta have reached an agreement over the player’s transfer fee and Romero could leave for London this evening.

Cristian Romero has been Tottenham’s priority target for weeks and negotiations have been ongoing between the two clubs for a while. Atalanta rejected Spurs’ initial offer for the defender but Tottenham continued to push to land the centre-back this summer. Towards the end of last week, the negotiations came close to getting called off but over the last few days, Spurs made more gains in talks with the Italian club. And it has been claimed that finally, a deal is in place between Spurs and Atalanta for Romero to move to the north London club.
Cristian Romero to Spurs: Transfer Details
Cristian Romero will sign a five-year deal with Spurs. Romero was pushing to join Tottenham and on Monday, he reportedly told Gian Piero Gasperini he wanted to move to North London in the summer. Cristian Romero had joined Atalanta from Juventus on an initial two-year loan with an option to buy for €16m. He was named best Serie A defender in the 2020-21 campaign.
Tottenham were in search of replacements after the departure of Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian joined the Qatar side Al-Duhail this summer. Tottenham’s managing director, Paratici is the main man behind the transfer of Romero. He previously signed Romero while working at Juventus and the centre-back is now regarded as one of the best in Serie A. Now he looks set to move to the Premier League though after Tottenham finally made the breakthrough during negotiations. Paratici has been locked in talks with Atalanta for over 10 days now in an attempt to strike an agreement.
According to Sky Italia, Atalanta are working on deals for two players – Lille’s Sven Botman and Juventus’ Merih Demiral.
Talks with Lille are ongoing over a permanent transfer but an agreement is not a done, so they are also working on a loan for Demiral with an obligation to buy.
Sky Sports News reported last week that Botman is Atalanta’s top target and initial discussions between the clubs had already taken place.
Lille are looking for a similar offer to the £27m they received for Gabriel from Arsenal in order to consider a sale.
