Barcelona: There was a hype setting the bars that Manchester United is monitoring Ousmane Dembele. The Premier League Giant was in pursuit of the youngster for the past few weeks. Koeman was critical for Dembele’s performance on the opening game for la Liga and has been out of the squad selection since them. The Frenchman was also out of favor due to his interdisciplinary antics at training with his late arrivals.
Fans expected the 23-year-old to leave the club in this summer transfer window. There was a rush of transfer talks on the deadline but Manchester United failed to sign Dembele. The failure led to a domino effect on Barcelona as they had to give up on two of their transfer targets.
Manchester United rues Barcelona transfer plans
Manchester United broke their bank on the last to sign a number of players which include big names like Porto full-back Alex Telles and free-agent striker Edinson Cavani on a hefty contract. They also snapped up teenage star Traore from Serie A outfit Atlanta. However, Dembele did not come up to their list of signings with no approach made by the club. There was an initial offer for a loan deal with an option to buy but Barcelona needed a boost in their budget to make their transfer window successful.

- Barcelona receive an ultimatum from Lyon for Memphis Depay
Barcelona missed out on Olympique Lyon striker Memphis Depay and Manchester City defender Eric Garcia. Koeman wanted both of them at the club but things did not go as planned. Goal reported that Barcelona is close to reaching an agreement over Memphis Depay as Lyon director Juninho Perambuanco admitted the interest from the Catalan club. The deal was underway with Barca quoting £25 million for Depay with Koeman planning to replace Luis Suarez for cheap.
Koeman loses out on his options to strengthen Barcelona
Also, Ronald Koeman thought of bolstering the defensive line before the deadline. The lack of funds has been a great hindrance to Barcelona to sign players easily. Dembele transfer was supposed to bring in enough funds to sign both Eric Garcia and Depay. Garcia is a former La Masia talent and would like to complete a return to Camp Nou. It seems Barcelona need to wait one more year till the 19-year-old’s contract expires. Barca has had a good start to the season but new signings might have enhanced the course of the campaign. Koeman still hopes he can make his required squad in the winter transfer window.
