Mundo Deportivo, a Spanish sports news website, claims that Union Berlin is interested in signing Sergino Dest. The 22-year-old Barcelona defender will join the Bundesliga club on loan this summer. Die Eisernen must first make it into the UEFA Champions League before any agreement can be reached.
When Sergino Dest was still at Ajax, he was a highly touted young player. He started as a right back for the Dutch powerhouses while he was still a teenager. Thus, the USMNT international was expected to complete Barcelona’s protracted hunt for a successor to Dani Alves. However, this has not been the case up to this point.
The 22-year-old had a solid first year but was benched all season in the previous campaign. Barcelona loaned Dest to AC Milan because Xavi Hernandez didn’t think highly of him. The player has had little success, seeing only 635 minutes of action in 14 appearances.
Dest’s situation at Spotify Camp Nou is unlikely to change over the next offseason. And in the following months, Barcelona will try to unload the 22-year-old defender. The teenager has drawn the attention from several teams, including a few Premier League squads. However, it seems that Union Berlin is his next stop.
