Urijah Faber Career

On November 12, 2003, as part of the Gladiator Challenge promotion, Faber made his professional MMA debut, defeating Poes Manne with a guillotine choke at 1:19 of the first round. On February 12, 2004, Faber defeated George Adkins via TKO (punches) to earn a chance at GC Bantamweight champion David Velasquez. On June 6, 2004, Faber won a unanimous decision over Velasquez to become the new GC Bantamweight champion.

Faber defeated Del Hawkins by technical knockout (strikes) at 3:19 of the first round on August 19, 2004. After this bout, Faber began to compete in both GC and King of the Cage, GC’s primary promotion.

Faber defeated Rami Boukai by a majority decision on September 24, 2004, less than a month after his previous bout. Faber defeated Eben Kaneshiro by submission (strikes) on November 14, 2004, to claim the King of the Cage Bantamweight Championship, which he held concurrently with the GC Bantamweight title.

Faber returned to GC on March 13, 2005, defeating David Granados by rear naked choke at 1:53 of round 1. On May 7, 2005, he successfully defended his KOTC title against Hiroyuki Abe by TKO (cut) at 2:37 of the third round. Faber suffered his first defeat upon his return to GC on September 10, 2005, when he lost the GC Bantamweight championship to Tyson Griffin via TKO (strikes) in only five seconds during the third round.

Faber successfully defended his KOTC title against Shawn Bias via guillotine choke at 1:24 of the first round on October 29, 2005. On December 11, 2005, he returned to GC and defeated Charles Bennett via rear-naked choke at 4:38 of round 1. Faber fought Ivan Menjivar on January 8, 2006, at a TKO Major League MMA event. Faber won by disqualification at 2:02 of the second round after Menjivar illegally kicked Faber while he was on the ground.

Faber announced in October 2016 that his upcoming fight against Brad Pickett on December 17, 2016, at UFC on Fox 22 in his hometown of Sacramento would be his last. Faber ultimately won the match by unanimous decision. Following the fight’s conclusion, Faber announced his 13-year retirement from the sport.

After two and a half years away from mixed martial arts competition, Faber returned to the Octagon on July 13, 2019, for UFC Fight Night 155 against Ricky Simón. He became the second combatant to win a UFC bout after being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame by a first-round TKO. This victory earned him the award for Performance of the Night. Faber signed a new contract with the UFC following the fight. Faber fought Petr Yan at UFC 244 on December 14, 2019. He was knocked out during the third round.
