IPL 2020: Chennai Super Kings registered a five-wicket win over the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opening match of the IPL 2020. In the second match, CSK faced the Rajasthan Royals team who did not have the dangerous Jos Buttler in their team.

Fans expected CSK to come up on the winning side and continue their winning streak. However, Sanju Samson brilliant and explosive knock of pushed the Rajasthan Royals to a total of 216 runs. CSK tried their best at the end to reach the target. However, no one other than Faf du Plessis could stand out in the CSK batting order.

Another major highlight was MS Dhoni demoting himself, despite being the most experienced batsman in the team. Dhoni promoted Sam Curran, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Kedar Jadhav ahead of himself in the batting order.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said, “The three sixes that MS Dhoni hit in the last over made it feel like CSK came close to the target, but the reality was something different. In the middle, it looked like Dhoni wasn’t even trying to chase the target considering the number of dot balls he played.”

He also expressed his opinions regarding CSK’s batting order against RR. According to Sehwag, CSK should have sent Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Kedar Jadhav. Sehwag feels that Dhoni should have come up the order. He gave MS 4/10 points for his captaincy decisions against RR. (IPL 2020)

“I feel Dhoni could’ve batted higher up or even sent Ravindra Jadeja to bat after Sam Curran got out. The run-rate slowed down in the middle overs. If that hadn’t happened and about 20-22 runs were required to win in the last over, the three sixes that Dhoni hit would’ve made people say ‘wow, what a finish’,” said Sehwag.

“If over 30 runs are required, those three sixes wouldn’t make a difference. I think Dhoni could’ve batted over Kedar Jadhav at least. The number of balls Jadhav played, had Dhoni been the one facing them, CSK wouldn’t have finished with the deficit of 17-18 runs that they did,” he further added. (IPL 2020)
