WATCH: Luka Modric scores a banger against Scotland as Croatia fly through to the knockout stages of Euro 2020

Croatian captain Luka Modric has scored a banger when his team required it the most in their last group stage match of Euro 2020 against Scotland. Group D, the group comprising England, Czech Republic, Croatia and Scotland was at a very sensitive stage until tonight wherein the tables could have turned at any moment. All the four teams were playing their last group stage matches at the same time tonight and the qualification to the knockout was on the line.

The match between Croatia and Scotland was being played at Scotland’s Hampden Park. The Croatians took the lead in the 17th minute courtesy of Nikola Vlasic’s early goal and it was looking like they would easily seal the three point and secure a position in the knockouts. Scotland were looking dull in the initial phases of the game, and nobody expected them to score against the rock solid Croatian defence.

However, breaking all odds, Scottish midfielder Callum McGregor broke all odds and to everyone’s surprise scored the equaliser in the 42nd minute. Score at halftime: 1-1.

The Croatians were now under pressure as anything less than 3 points would see them out of the tournament. It was then that their ever dependable captain Luka Modric came to the rescue and scored an absolute banger off the woodwork to give Croatia the lead again in the 62nd minute. Modric’s strike will definitely be rated as one of the best goals in Euro 2020.

Winger Ivan Perisic further added to their lead by scoring in the 77th minute, cementing their place in the knock-outs.
