Indian team is known for its World Class opening partnerships. From Sunil Gavaskar-K Srikanth to Saurav Ganguly-Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma-Shikhar Dhawan, the national team has produced various World beaters. Indian team produced a similar partnership in Virendra Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir in the early 2010s. However, when the pair faded out of the national set-up, the Indian national team struggled for an opening pair. In came two youngsters from different corners of India Murali Vijay and Dhawan. The two complemented each other with perfection and the playing style of both suited them in a manner that made both of the players excel their game.
I want to be a commentator: Shikhar Dhawan
The couple got a chance to bat together for the first time in 2013 which was also the first game of Shikhar Dhawan. The left-hander smashed a record-shattering 183 against the mighty Australians in the game and the pair batted together for a record-breaking 289 runs partnership. Murali Vijay also smashed a fiery 153 runs in the stand.

Shikhar has praised his opening partner. He said Muraji Vijay understands me and is the perfect batting partner. In an online conversation between Ravichandran Ashwin Shikhar Dhawan said “I tell him ‘you’re like my wife’. Sometimes, when we don’t take a run, we have an argument but it gets sorted soon. And it’s very difficult to understand him. You need to have a calm mind and patience to understand him.”
Dhawan further talked about the partnership between the two. He added “But he is a lovely chap. I love opening with him. We have done very well for the country. We are still very good friends. Of course, I look forward to spending time with him and having a good laugh with him,”
Sometimes, when he says something, I don’t understand. But after 1-2 years, when I recall what he said, I understand it then.”
