BWF Cancels Tournaments In Hong Kong, Macau Due To COVID-19

The COVID-19 limitations in the two nations have forced the cancellation of two world tour badminton events, the Hong Kong Open Super 500 and the Macau Open Super 300

according to the global governing body BWF on Thursday. The dates for the Macau Open were November 1–6, while the dates for the Hong Kong Open in Kowloon were November 8–13

The Badminton World Federation claimed that the governments of the two nations had advised them that holding such event would not be feasible at the moment.

The Hong Kong Badminton Association (HKBA) had been working closely with government authorities to seek special approval on loosening some restrictions for event participants, the BWF stated in a statement.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation and complexities of quarantine measures in Hong Kong," the statement continued.

However, given that quarantine requirements are still in place for all foreign guests, the HKBA decided that the only practical course of action was to cancel the competition

Following this week's continuing Japan Open, the global tour will go to Europe in October for competitions in Germany, France, and Denmark
