Eduardo Camavinga is an 18-year old French professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Ligue 1 club Rennes and the France national team.
Camavinga has been a part of Rennes youth system since the age of 11. He signed his first professional contract on December 2018, at the age of 16 & becoming the youngest ever professional for the club. He made his professional debut for Rennes in a 3–3 Ligue 1 tie with Angers on April 2019, becoming the youngest player to ever play for Rennes’ first team at 16 years and four months old. On August 2019, Camavinga scored an assist and was awarded the man of the match award in a 2–1 win against Paris Saint-Germain. He scored his first goal for Rennes in a 1–0 win against Lyon in the 89th minute of the game.
Eduardo Camavinga: International Career
On August 2020, Eduardo Camavinga was called up to play on France’s senior team after Paul Pogba was side-lined by a positive COVID-19 test. He became, in the process, the youngest player to be called up to the French senior team since Rene Gerard in 1932, who was only 17 years, nine months and 17 days old. He debuted in a 4–2 win against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League, replacing N’Golo Kante midway through the second half. In doing so he became the youngest player to play for French national team since Maurice Gastiger in 1914 at 17 years, nine months, and 29 days old.
Camavinga made his first start for France in a 7–1 win against Ukraine where he scored his first international goal, opening the scoring with an overhead kick. This made him the youngest goalscorer for France since Maurice Gastiger in 1914. On June 2021, Camavinga was named in Sylvain Ripoll’s 18-man France squad for the Summer Olympics in 2021. However, he was later removed from the squad after his club Rennes’ objected.

According to Daily Star, Manchester United will turn their attention to Eduardo Camavinga. Camavinga is a long-term target for United and could be available for as much as £25m.
Signing his first professional contract in 2018, Eduardo Camavinga became the youngest player ever to feature for Rennes. He made his debut for the first-team in April 2019 against Angers. So far, Camavinga has made 82 appearances for Rennes, scoring twice and assisting five in the process.
Manchester United are looking to add a new midfielder to their squad. A natural central midfielder can also be used in a deeper role. The problem for Rennes is that his contract ends in a year and they either have to sell him now or lose him for free in 2022.
Bayern Munich are also interested in signing Stade Rennais’s midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. The 18-year-old has been on Bayern’s radar over the past 12 months.The Rennes midfielder liked an Instagram post confirming the move of the England international, which did not go unnoticed.
Despite constant reports suggesting the teenager will soon be on his way out of the French league, Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice has admitted that nothing has yet been decided.
