It has been claimed that someone who chokes may be known as a choker or as a choke artist. It is considered a form of analysis paralysis. It is over used tag in sports and it is assigned to a team or player that only lost a small lead or was not heavily favored to win.

The South African cricket team carries a large burden of the tag. It has happened since the memorable semi-final of the 1999 World Cup that ended in a tie against Australia in Birmingham.
