Don Edmunds Biography: Don Edmunds was born in Santa Ana, California, on September 23, 1930. He redesigned the nose on his first Kurtis midget car, replacing Kurtis’ design with his own. Eddie Kuzma, an Indianapolis car constructor, participated in Edmunds to repair a dent in Jimmy Bryan’s car after the driver kicked it.

Don Edmunds Career

In 1957, he made his first start at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After finishing nineteenth in the 1957 Indianapolis 500, he was named Rookie of the Year, overtaking Bill Cheesbourg, Elmer George, Mike Magill, and Eddie Sachs. In 1958 a severe practice accident at the Speedway terminated Edmunds’ Indy career.

In Anaheim, California, he founded Autoresearch, Inc., which specialized in constructing midget and sprint cars. Edmunds drew the blueprints and fabricated most of the original Bill Thomas Cheetah race car prototype. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, his chassis won numerous National Midget Championships. Edmunds was a prolific Formula Super Vee car builder in the 1970s. He began collecting and restoring vintage race cars.

Don Edmunds Death

Don Edmunds passed away on 11th August 2020 at the age of 89. He took his last breath in Gold Beach, OR.
