Arshad Nadeem Biography: Arshad Nadeem is a famous Pakistani athlete. He is a Javelin thrower. He is the reigning Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion. Arshad Nadeem was born on 2nd January 1997 in Mian Channu, Punjab, Pakistan. He was a versatile athlete from his early school days. He dabbled in all the sports on offer in his shcooksuch as cricket, badminton, football, and athletics. His early passion was cricket and later he found himself playing it at district-level tape ball tournaments. When he was in eighth standard, he caught the eye of Rasheed Ahmad Saqi at the time of an athletics competition. He had a big history of developing sportspeople in the division and started training Nadeem soon afterward.

Before joining the javelin throw, Nadeem pursued the shot put and discus throw. Gold medals in the javelin throw in successive Punjab Youth festivals and an inter-board meet propelled him on the national stage.

  • Arshad Nadeem started competing in javelin competition in 2015.
  • He received a scholarship from World Athletics in 2016 which made him eligible to train at the IAAF High Performance Training Centre in Mauritius.
  • In February 2016, Nadeem won the bronze medal at the South Asian Games in Guwahati, India, setting a national record and his personal best at 78.33 m.
  • In June 2016, Nadeem won the bronze medal at the 17th Asian Junior Athletics Championship, held in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • In May 2017, Nadeem won a bronze medal with a throw of 76.33 m at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku.
  • In April 2018, he set a new personal best of 80.45 m in the qualification round of the Commonwealth Games.

Arshad Nadeem made his official debut in the Olympics in 2020. He represented Pakistan in the tournament. During that tournament, he was not provided with good training as per his father. His father claimed that Nadeem trained in his home courtyard and on the streets. On 4th August 2021, he qualified for the men’s javelin throw event final at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He became the first Pakistani athlete to qualify for the final of any Olympic track and field event. He finished fifth in the men’s javelin throw with a throw of 84.62 m.

Arshad Nadeem made his country proud in 2024 at the Summer Olympics 2024. He became the first Pakistani to qualify for the final of any track and field event in Olympic history and to win an Olympic gold medal. He made a new record of 92.97 m in the final. he won the event against Neeraj Chopra, an Indian javelin thrower.
